Warthog comes climbing out the ruff stuff
What a day Saturday the 10th April delivered. Red Hill was just perfect!
A 25-35km/h South Easter caressed the slope from early morning till late in the day.
The TOSS Aerobatics League kicked off with the first league event of the year and
we managed to pull through a full three rounds over the length of the day
starting at 10AM and running through till 3PM by which time most peoples brains
were pretty much papsnoek anyway and ready for a welcome refreshing beer
down at Dixies at the bottom of the hill.
A hearty well done! to Damian, Steve and Malcolm for placing first, second and third respectively,
in what could be rated as the best conditions possible for an aerobatic event.
And on a extremely heartwarming note, the warthog that went missing reappeared!
Carlo took a plunge down the gorge into which the hapless PSS glider had disappeared a full week before,
and in no more than 10 minutes of bush bashing came across the glider right in the base of the gorge.
The next 45 minutes were spent getting himself very carefully out of the said gorge up the vertical cliff
which clutching his pride and joy very tightly in his hands.
No sense in finding the thing only to topple over backwards and go
skidding down a mountain side while climbing to glory.
Remarkably, other than a bit of weathering due to the week in the bush all by itself,
the glider had one tiny scratch on the nose cone, and that was it!
So happiness all round as we hope to see the Warthog survive till the PSS festival in June.
May I suggest that Carlo locks it away right now, swallows the keys and
then only finds them sometime around the 19th of June.
