Long walk to mercedes
One notable miss on my part from the weekends frivolities on the west slope
was a real gem of a story.
Mark Beckenstrater got the long time award for the longest walk.
Trying to get the Fox to behave and make headway into the howling westerly,
he slowly slid backwards into the gully on the right hand side, failing to dump it immediately, he kept trying to save the doomed glider right until the bitter end.
This slow and inevitable death resulted in the Fox ending up at the base of the gully, at least 100meters down the slope. Marc then proceeded to go down the length of the slope, only to find the plane on the other side of a raging water filled gully. He then proceeded to climb out all the way to the top, climb in his car, drive to the other side and go all the way down the other side of the gully. The surprise find of the walk was a very totaled and very old Mercedes Benz in the gully, a long time lost relic from some unfortunate incident. After his traverse out of the Gully the poor man looked about as wrecked as the Mercedes.
I think a few of us would have left the poor Fox in peace right where it was, in the company of the lonely car wreck.
The award finally goes to Marc for the longest walk, climb, scratch and sheer guts in the pursuit of a toy.
