More bizarre weather this weekend, as the predicted
30km/h South Easter fizzled into nothingness and fog
settled in for the weekend and continues at this point
with a series of very weak frontal systems sitting on us and refusing to move.
So we did what any self respecting TOSSer does and got up to some silly stuff…
A fun day was organised at the Fish Hoek power club
and thanks to the guys for letting us terrorize their facilities for the day.
Two bungee ropes were set up, the electric power planes dusted off
Lipo’s charged for the first time in a very long time
and off to the power field we went.
A nice turn out of guys and their toys made for some fun as we all went through our paces
closer to the ground than we are used to on a slope.
A few maiden flights took place and a few bit of carnage followed throughout the day
the worst being Christo’s lock out on 35megs and resultant demise of a very nice EPP
aerobatics ship as it did a headlong dive for terra firma.
Undoubtedly the best fun of the day was had in bungee launching the BEE wings
and seeing what we could get up to with the resultant hight before mother earth
reached up and grabbed the hapless piece of plastic.
Combat launches, limbo under poles and all sorts of other silly games were invented, tried and
put in the locker for the next event like this that we plan to do.
New TOSSer Hans brough along a gaggle of truly astonishing home
built thermal gliders and launched them on his own bungee set-up,
giving the TOSSers a lesson in thermal gliding, although the day
hardly supplied anything worth talking about in terms of thermals.
So in the end we stole his lengthy bungee and proceeded to abuse that
with BEE wing launches which supplied even further height for the
guys to test their gliding skills with the severely beaten slope craft.
In the end a great day filled with humour was had by all attendees
and so we look forward to the next installment when the wind fails us again….
which is usually very seldom in this part of the world.
Please make a note that we will do an installation at the Long Beach mall tomorrow morning
after voting, so bring some gliders and help us to ctreat a presence in the shopping mall
and spresd the word about slope soaring with those who probably have no idea slope soaring even exists.
